Informal meeting with Mrs Chahnaz GUIZANI Director of National Office of Thermalisme and Hydrotherapy of Tunisia

The collaboration between FEMTEC and NOTH will create added value in the promotion of hydro/balneotherapy

The informal meeting between the Director of the National Office of Thermalisme and Hydrotherapy of Tunisia, Mrs Chahnaz GUIZANI and the President of FEMTEC, Mrs Olga SURDU, took place lin a working but relaxed atmosphere and was an opportunity to evaluate the results and to plan new common activities.

Tunisia with its Mediterranean coastline and rich history of wellness practices and National Office of Thermalisme and Hydrotherapy through a sustained and coherent policy, have developed over the last 15-20 years the thalassotherapy/hydrotherapy sector and transformed it into a driving force for the country’s economy and the well-being of its inhabitants.

With a focus on natural elements, many centres emphasize sustainability being continuously concerned with the application of the highest standards on water quality and safety, on therapeutic products, on design, operation, maintenance of facilities and permanent optimization of best practices in the sector.

The continuation of the program of complementary studies in hydrology, medical climatology, (thalassotherapy, climatology and balneotherapy) developed by the University of Medicine of Monastir under the coordination of FEMTEC was discussed and will continue.

Considering that the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the importance of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine in health systems around the world and the objectives and activities of the collaboration plan, the aspects and involvement of National Office of Thermalisme and Hydrotherapy together with the other FEMTEC members in the development of materials related to the benchmarking of training in hydro/balneotherapy were also discussed.

At the end of the meeting, the convergence of concerns was evident. The collaboration between FEMTEC and NOTH will create added value in the promotion of evidence-based hydro/balneotherapy applied by well-trained practitioners within a sustainable natural environment and using standardised procedures.
