The Wieliczka mine is often referred to as “the Underground Salt Cathedral of Poland”. In 1978 it was placed on the original UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites.

It is also an underground thermal resort recognized by the Polish minister of health. Wieliczka is located 15 km from Cracow – the former capital of Poland, one of the most popular tourist destinations, not only in Poland but also in Europe.
